What is the best investment you can make? Is it a product that anyone can easily
buy, such as shares on the stock market or one that is in short supply but many
people want, such as a rare painting? Do cherished numbers come into the category
of the rare painting? You bet they do!
All registration numbers are unique, there is only one of each. But Cherished Numbers,
for example ones that spell a name or contain someone’s initials, are the
ones in demand. The higher the demand, the higher the price people are prepared
to pay. And unlucky bidders for a particular number this year, will hope that, just
like a painting, it will come back on the market at some time in the future, albeit
at a higher price.
PNA have many clients who buy Cherished Numbers simply as investments, they never
go on a vehicle. Typically their investment will show annual gains of anywhere from
10-25% or more in the case of high profile numbers. For example, in 1997, registration
number 1UA was valued at £15,000. It is now on the market for £69,000
and if sold at this price would show an increase in value of 350% and an anualised
return on investment of 36%! But even the one-off buyer who simply wants a number
for his or her vehicle can join the ‘Investment Club’ in the knowledge
that their investment is increasing in value all the time. Your vehicle will go
down in value but the number almost certainly will not. (see our vehicle v number
comparison page) The other advantage of putting a cherished number on your vehicle
is that, if the model design has not changed, it does not denote its age.
